It requires 3 x AAA batteries, and you will need a smaller-sized Phillips screwdriver to open up the puppy and fit them.

Once the batteries are in, the puppy will happily enough walk around on the floor. The puppy is not as suited to carpet, and works best on a solid smooth floor, like a table or tiled floor.
